Chapter 27 -- "Key To Symmetry"

"Where are we?" Edward asked. This world, while bearing many similarities to his world, seemed... eerie. He felt as if he were looking through a mirror, only the other side is warped at the very slightest.

"This must be Spirit's world," Vic said, noting the incredibly creepy moon looming above them.

Everyone turned to Spirit, who was practically vibrating with happiness.

"I... get to see.. my Maka again..." he whispered softly, barely able to contain himself. Everyone else rolled their eyes.

"Okay, but first we need to figure out the clue" Vic said, trying to get everyone on track. "What does it say?"

Spirit opened his box. "It says... symmetry is key."

"Huh?" everyone asked.

"It probably has to do with Death the Kid," Vic told Spirit.

"Of course! We should try his house first."

As the characters walked across Death City, Michele wondered exactly how all of this happened. Her fiancé didn't really explain anything.

"So, what's going on, Vic?" she asked.

He paused, before answering, "I don't really know. How can characters really exist when I'm the one who voices them? None of it really makes sense, but," he sighed, "I'm sad to say that we aren't in charge of this world, we'll just have to go with the sanity. By the way, how did you get here, Michele?"

"I don't really know, either," she answered. "I just noticed that you were missing, and then it became dark, and I was with you again."

"So I wasn't gone for a long time, then?" Vic asked. Michele shook her head. Well, that's good. At least time in his own world is running slower.

"Here we are!" Spirit called to the group. They stood before a large, very symmetrical, mansion. Spirit walked up to the door and made sure to knock exactly eight times, or else Kid would have a fit. After a few seconds, the door swung open, revealing a teenager with oddly striped hair.

"Hello, Death Scythe, what's the occasion?" Kid asked, peering behind Spirit's shoulder to look at the various characters.

"I'll explain later, but now can we come in?"

"So the clue said 'symmetry is key?'" Death the Kid asked Spirit. After a couple of hours of Kid rearranging everyone in the most symmetrically appealing way, they finally got down to business.

"Well, other than the clue being very accurate, I can't say much about it."

"Perhaps it's a more literal meaning," Edward suggested.

"What, you mean like a real key or something?" Spirit asked.

"Precisely. Now, all of my keys are perfectly symmetrical, of course. Would you like to borrow one of mine?" Kid asked.

"No," Vic said, "I think that we need a more specific key. Maybe from someone closer to you, Spirit?"

"Well, I couldn't help but notice that Maka has very symmetrical keys to her apartment," Kid said. Not that he goes through his friends things to make sure everything is symmetrical.

"YOU MEAN WE GET TO SEE MAKA?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" Spirit asked.

"Sure, let's head over there now."

Spirit knocked on the door eagerly. He just couldn't wait to see his Maka! I'll bet she'll be so surprised!

Once the door opened, Spirit leaped forward and hugged his daughter to death.

"OHMAKAIMISSEDYOUSOMUCHIWASSOLOSTANDWORRIEDANDAFRAIDOFWHATWOULDHAPPENTOYOUBUTBELIEVEMEYOURPAPAWASBRAVENOWDIDYOUMISSME?!?!?!?!?"

Maka sighed and answered in monotone, "Oh, you were gone? I didn't notice, I just figured you were out with another woman or something, as you always are."

Spirit froze.

"And could you please get off of me?"

Slowly, Spirit managed to release his grip on Maka while still staying in a state of shock.

"Erm, sorry to bother you, but do you by chance have any symmetrical keys laying around?" Vic asked. "It's important."

Maka raised her eyebrows. Normally, she wouldn't give a stranger her keys, but they were with her Papa, who would never want to harm her. Besides, when she was cleaning earlier she noticed some keys that weren't hers.

"Um, yeah. Actually, I do. They aren't mine, so you can have them," Maka said, after going inside briefly to retrieve them. Once she handed them to Vic, the PMoF appeared.

"Thank goodness you found these!" she said. "I haven't seen them for a months, so I've had to crawl through the back window to my house!"

And just like that, she disappeared, along with Vic and his characters.
